Day 1: Arrival in the hotel. Check in and welcome drink.
Day 2: Day trip to Mega Spilaio, the famous monastery from which the revolutionary call for "freedom or death" first rang out in 1821, commanding all Greeks to rise up against the Ottoman empire; Agia Lavra, the legendary monastery, built at an altitude of 924 m. inside a huge cave, and best known for its Holy Icon of the Virgin Mary, made out of wax and mastich; and the Cave of the Lakes. A guide will be waiting for us in all three sites to guide us. We will spend the afternoon strolling around Patras, the main port city of the Peloponnese. Return to the hotel in the evening.
Day 3: Day trip to Athens. A guide will be waiting for us at the Monastery of Daphni, at the outskirts of Athens. After visitng the famous monastery, we will enter the centre of Athens and visit the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens, with its beautiful collection of Orthodox Christian artwork. The pictoresque Church of Panagia Kapnikarea and the Kaisariani Monastery will be our final guided visits before we are dropped off in the centre of Athens to stroll around, shop, eat... Return to the hotel in the evening.
Day 4: Day trip to the central Peloponnese. After a short trek inside the Lousios river gorge, we visit the Philosophos Monastery; we then move on to the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Prodromos, in Gortynia, followed by the Monastery of Palaiopanagia, the Monastery of the Metamorphosis (Transfiguration) at Loukou and finally the Monastery of Aimialon in Dimitsana. In Dimitsana we have time to stroll around and visit the Open-Air Water Power Museum of Dimitsana. Return to the hotel in the evening.
Day 5: Day trip to the southern Peloponnese. We visit the Byzantine city-castle of Mystras, the Museum of Mystras, the of Monastery of Agii Tesserakonta Martyres, and the Monasteries of Zerbitsa, Kastri, Odigitria Vrontohiou and the Monastery of Pantanasa. Return to the hotel in the evening.
Day 6: Morning trip to lake Stymfalia , where Hercules killed the deadly "Stymfalides ornithes", man-eating birds with metal wings who terrorised the region, the Monastery of Saint George by the artificial Lake Doxa and the Monastery of Saint Vlassis inAno Trikala. Return to the hotel in the afternoon. In the evening, a scientific lecture will be given in the hotel by a university professor specialised in the field.
Day 7: Goodbye coffee and cookies in the hotel and departure!
