1.Are the pebbles on the beach big or small?
The pebbles on our beach are of medium size. The nearer you come to the sea, the smaller they are.
2.Is the beach clean?
The beach of Sykia has been awarded every year for the past number of years a Blue Flag . The Blue Flag is an exclusive eco-label awarded to over 3200 beaches and marinas in 36 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, New Zealand, Canada and the Caribbean. 3.How far is the hotel from the bus stop?
The bus stop is 50 meters from the hotel. The stop is called “Margaritis”. When you board the bus on return journeys, “Margaritis” is the bus stop name to give to the driver.

4. More about public transport
The hotel bus stop is on two bus routes. One is the Xylokastro-Athens-Xylokastro line, and the other is the Xylokastro-Corinth-Xylokastro line. The timetables for both lines can be obtained from hotel reception.
The closest train station is in Xylokastro, a 5-min drive from Daphne’s Club. The trains passing from here can take you to Athens, Corinth, Kiato, Patras, Diakofto, Olympia and lots of other exciting destinations! Again, timetables for the major destinations are available from the hotel. You can also check the website of the national train service “OSE ”
The suburban train («προαστιακός») can transport you from the airport of Athens to Kiato (a 15-min drive from Daphne’s Club). Finally, taxis can be hired from Xylokastro, hailed on the street or called on your behalf by Hotel reception.
5.Are there any ATMs in the area?
There are no ATMs in Sykia, but there are five in Xylokastro: ALPHA Bank, National Bank of Greece, Eurobank, Emboriki Bank and ATE Bank. You can change money in any of these banks during normal bank working hours.
6.What are the working hours in Greece?
In Greece, siesta is sacred, especially in the summer! Shop opening times are adapted accordingly:
Monday, Wednesday and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 9 a.m to 2.00 p.m. and 6.00 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Public services and banks open at 8 a.m.
Super markets stay open later, typically till 9 p.m.
These times vary slightly according to whether it’s winter or summer, with summer opening times being longer.
You need not worry though, as you will always find kiosks and small kiosks (“periptera”) (“psilikatzidika”) selling almost everything you can imagine at all times. You do not risk going hungry in Greece!

7.What about siesta time?
Siesta is a sacred institution in Greece. The basic understanding is that between 2.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. one should sleep and, if not sleep, then at least keep quiet! At Daphne’s Club we respect this timetable and kindly ask our guests to do likewise.
8.Can I download the pictures from my digital camera somewhere?
Yes, you can do so at our guest computer, or in one of the photography shops in Xylokastro.
9.Is there a Church around?
Yes, you have a wide choice of churches. The closest one is in Sykia, a 10-minutes walk from the hotel (you can hear the bells chime if you keep a sharp ear!). In the centre of Xylokastro you will find the church of Saint Vlassios. Saint Vlassios is the town’s protector. The area also boasts an important number of monasteries. As Greece is a country populated mainly by Christian Orthodox believers, most of these churches cater to this creed.
10.Can I rent a car/motorcycle at the hotel?
No, not at the hotel, but in Xylokastro there are a number of travel agencies that also rent cars. Contact the reception for more precise information.
11.Can I rent a bike at the hotel?
You do not need to rent one, as we provide them for free! Contact the reception for further details.

12.Eating, drinking and having a good time!
The beachfront promenade of Sykia lies a mere 100 meters from the hotel. There you will find a number of very decent typical Greek tavernas. It is very enjoyable to sit by the beach and eat calamari with a light sea breeze caressing your shoulders!
Xylokastro, 2 km away, is a famous holiday destination resort among Athenians. It also boasts a seafront promenade of restaurants, cafés, bars and discos to cater for most tastes. Of course don’t expect to find a fine selection of sushi restaurants here! But you can choose between fish tavernas, meat tavernas, a couple of Italian restaurants and many souvlaki places. If you feel more adventurous, we can also suggest a few more options that lie outside the beaten track, a short drive along the coast or up the mountains.
In discos, bars and cafés expect to hear mainly mainstream pop/rock and electronic music. If you want to try your luck with Greek music, there are also a few places playing almost exclusively Greek hits, old and new.
13.Open air cinemas
One of the best things in Greece is open air cinemas! The pleasure of munching crisps, drinking beer and watching a good film all at the same time is a rare one! And worry not; in Greece films are never dubbed!
There are two open air cinemas in Xylokastro. Each usually has two screenings, one at around 9 p.m. and the second one at around 11 p.m. The programme is always available at the reception area.
14.What about other evening entertainment?
If you feel like trying something different, we suggest you go to a play at the Epidaurus ancient theatre. Although they are in ancient Greek, it is not important. It is so spell-binding to be sitting where the Ancients would have sat, watching what they would have watched, that language is irrelevant!
Another similar choice is the Roman theatre of Herodus Atticus under the Acropolis. There you can watch world famous operas, concerts and ballet.

15.How far is the nearest supermarket?
The nearest shop where you can get most of what you need is 100 meters away. For big supermarkets you will have to go a little bit further, to the other end of Xylokastro, roughly 7-8 minutes by car.

16.Can we get take-away food nearby?
Yes, the most of the tavernas in Sykia can pack their food for you to take home. In addition to this, we have a list of all delivery food at the reception. Just ask us!
17.How far is the nearest doctor?
The area’s Medical Centre is located 500 meters from the hotel. In Xylokastro there are also doctors, dentists, pediatricians, etc. The nearest hospital is 35 km away, in Corinth, while the famous University Hospital of Patras is 90 km away.
18.Are baby cots free of charge?
Yes.
19.Are there high-chairs for babies?
Yes.
20.Is there a hairdryer in the apartment?
Yes.
21.Do you provide bed linen and towels?
Yes.
22.Can you recommend a certain level of sun factor protection?
No, that depends on your type of skin. We would suggest you consult your dermatologist on this one and not the reception!

23.Are the floors wooden with perhaps washable rugs so that there are no problems for people with asthma or allergies?
The floors are tiled, so there is no problem for people with asthma. During the winter we put down washable rugs on the floor, so no problem there either!
24.What method is used in the apartments to discourage mosquitoes?
We can provide you with wall socket devices and the tablets that go with them.
25.Are apartments accessible to wheelchair users?
Yes, we have a ramp leading up to the reception from the garden level (which is three steps lower than the reception). From there all the apartments are accessible, except for apartment number “2. Jasmine. All the other apartments can be reached by elevator, and so can the roof-garden.

27. When is the best time to visit Sykia?
It depends on how you plan to spend your time!
Are you mainly interested in lying on the beach and enjoying the sea and sun? Then June, July and August are the right months for you!
Are you interested in excursions and archeological sites? Then April, May, September and October are ideal, because th weather is mild and therefore climbing ancient rocks or simply wondering around by foot, car or bicycle is easier and more pleasant!
